Anxiety and Depression Counseling

Anxiety and Depression

Anxiety and Depression have become part of our daily life. Both of these issues can create feelings of loneliness, isolation, fear, and hopelessness. Some degree of these feelings are normal and therefore, it is important to accept and acknowledge their roles in our lives, while also seeking to better understand how to manage and cope with them. The good news as we explore both of these challenges is that we have good tools and training for improving our ability to both cope and reduce or even overcome both anxiety and depression.

Anxiety as Normal

Anxiety comes and goes frequently throughout life. We all face unknowns, challenges, opportunities, change, etc. that triggers feelings of anxiety on a regular basis. Much of the time these feelings ebb and flow throughout the course of the day in a natural way. Anxiety serves an important and valuable function in our lives. It can tell us that things are important and can also alert us to danger… this helps keep us alive by reminding us to be our best when interviewing for a job or to watch our children in the parking lot. Unfortunately, anxiety can become debilitating when it stops functioning normally and starts to hijack our daily routines and activities or overload us with fear.

Anxiety as Normal

Christian counseling enhances traditional therapy approaches by adding a scriptural foundation. . Thrive Family Counseling holds to either one or both of these two perspectives, Interactionism and Christian Psychology. The overarching part of these two perspectives is they are Scripture specific, hold the standard of professional licensure, and acknowledge a personal calling to the field. The differences typically lie between the styles, types, and/or methods of using secular psychological approaches.
